PPG 2012

PermataBank believes that education is a crucial factor in making a difference and bringing change for the better.

One of PermataBank’s commitments in the field of national educational advancement is Permata PhotoJournalist Grant (PPG), a program dedicated to widen the knowledge and unfold the talent of Indonesian photo journalists whose daily task is to create visual masterpiece and keeping us informed of what is happening in the world. PPG is set to be a place of learning that will enable photo journalist to present their best work forward.

The first Permata PhotoJournalist Grant was held in 2011 and was warmly received by the media, the photojournalist community, and the public.

For PPG II, PermataBank has partnered with Erasmus Huis and the Royal Netherlands Embassy. PPG II is also in collaboration with PannaFoto Institute, Pewarta Foto Indonesia, Binus International, Pacific Place, the mentor and guest mentors, chief editors and photo editors of participating media.

Support also came from personalities who care about the development of photo journalistic in Indonesia such as Sasa Kralj (independent photo journalist, Croatia), John Stanmeyer (co-founder VII photo agency and contributor for National Geographic, US), and Kadir van Lohuizen (co-founder of NOOR photo agency and member of Supervisory Board, World Press Photo Foundation, the Netherlands).

The program consists of a photography workshop attended by ten selected photo journalists and grants to complete their photo story projects. The workshop began on September 28, 2012 and was divided into 16 twice-weekly class sessions with photo story as the main subject and supporting lessons in in-depth exploration of story proposals by producers of documentary programs and lessons in writing and research by experienced journlists. PPG II was concluded with a 2-day intensive class with a photo journalist from the Netherlands, Kadir van Lohuizen, followed with a result presentation of all workshop participants. Their photo stories will be displayed for public at the PPG II photo exhibition from December 21, 2012 to January 6, 2013 and through the publication of PPG II book.
