PermataBank believes that education is one of the crucial factors in making a difference and a change in society.

Permata Photojournalist Grant (PPG) is the first program held by PermataBank in 2011 to show its commitment in advancing education in Indonesia. The program is dedicated to the development and improvement of Indonesian photojournalists’ knowledge and talents. The program offers a workshop photography with the main subject on photo story and supporting subject including writing and research, mentored by experienced practitioners from PannaFoto Institute and guest mentors. As well as a grant to finish a photo story projetc. Until now, PPG program has been held 10 times and has produced 96 alumni.

In 2012, PermataBank partnered with Erasmus Huis and Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. In 2013, PermataBank and Erasmus Huis launched a fellowship program entitled Erasmus Huis Fellowship to Amsterdam, which offers an opportunity for alumni of the Permata Photojournalist Grant program to visit Amsterdam, the Netherlands, to work on a photo story mentored by Kadir van Lohuizen (NOOR Photo Agency), including an opportunity to attend the World Press Photo Award Days in Amsterdam. Until 2020 seven PPG alumni have been selected as the recipients of the Erasmus Huis Fellowship to Amsterdam.

In 2013, inspired by the experience of following the Training of Trainers (ToT) held by the World Press Photo in 2006, PannaFoto Institute designed a Training of Trainers workshop for those who work in photography education in Indonesia as educators, and intend to develop their skills in teaching photography. This intensive training provides opportunities for fellow photography educators to learn from each other and exchange experiences of teaching photography practices in various regions in Indonesia. Since 2013-2020 the ToT program has been held 7 times and produced 70 alumni.
