Climbing to the Top, Leaving Footprints

In Sleman, Yogyakarta, a talented climber named Fitriyani was born. She is an accomplished rock climbing athlete who has won several gold medals and triumphed in prestigious sporting events such as the Sea Games XXVI in 2011 and the Jakarta-Palembang 2018 Asian Games. At the Asian Games, she secured gold in the women’s speed world record team event before deciding to “retire.”

At the age of 30, Fitriyani chose to retire from her career as a rock climbing athlete, wanting to provide opportunities for the younger generation of athletes to pursue their dreams.

However, retirement does not mean stopping her contributions. Together with her husband, Fitriyani established a climbing club and became a specialized coach for children aged 6 to 15, named Nusantara Sport Climbing (NSC) in Yogyakarta. She also serves as a coach at the Yogyakarta Regional Training Center (Pelatda).

“Rock climbing is my life. It has given me many positive things, so I want to give back positive things to rock climbing,” said Fitriyani. She hopes to see her students excel and become great athletes.

While building her coaching career, Fitriyani is a loving mother at home. Her passion for rock climbing influences her children too. She would be delighted if some day her kids would follow her path. Because for her, the world of sport and being an athlete is not just about financial and career success, but a character building journey.
